Top Considerations When Selecting Iot Platforms

A good IoT platform simplifies the process of organising IoT devices with different connectivity technologies by eliminating the need to sign contracts with multiple network providers. Connectivity platforms provide connectivity, hardware, software, and performance analytics associated with maintaining the devices on your system. You can also offer existing Wi-Fi providers and carrier services to configure connections and facilitate easy setup.

Working with a mature provider of IoT platforms speeds up your time-to-market and ability to deliver world-class connected products without trying to do everything in-house. Choose a platform that can be scaled as your IoT projects grow, rather than specifying a handful of devices in one area or thousands in many regions.

When choosing an IoT platform, there are three key considerations: assessing the platform architecture, how your needs are met today, and what will be achieved in the future if you add smart connected products to your functionality. The evaluation of providers of IoT platforms is like the technology itself: the developers of IoT architectures and components are constantly evolving and their solutions are subject to judgment and will be on the market for many years to come. The trick for businesses is to evaluate what these providers offer, their track record, what IoT platform architecture looks like, how feasible they seem for the future of IoT and whether the provider can deliver a specific solution to business needs through an analytical process.

Rather than listing a number of platform vendors, most companies perform POCs in real life to test the platform’s performance and capabilities against a variety of technical criteria. In this way, you can avoid being influenced by sales conversations presented by market participants who do not correspond to the actual reality of their products. Other factors, such as the cost of the platform ecosystem, should also be taken into account in this process.

When manufacturers ask customers of the IoT platform to present hypothetical capabilities, they often set up real-world test environments that resemble their actual production processes and contain actual data sets from their product factories.

The goal of IoT platforms is to provide generic functionality to your application so you can focus on building features that distinguish your product and add value to your customers. By eliminating undifferentiated functionality, IoT platforms can help you reduce your development risk and costs and speed up the time-to-market of your products. Some platforms offer their enterprise customers a standard functionality package to implement into their IoT deployments, with a menu of options so that customers can select the desired functionality.

Think of the Internet of Things (IoT) as a group of technologies that provide the foundation for the development of your product. An IoT platform facilitates communication, data flow, device management and application functionality. A platform is not an application per se, but many applications are based on IoT platform frameworks.

When talking about IoT platforms, technical terms such as transport protocols, control motors and data lakes are often used. To address this confusion, we have compiled a full guide to IoT platforms (Internet of Things), their types of things, and what organizations should consider when choosing one.

IT experts agree that the role of the Internet of Things in the company’s development should not be underestimated, particularly given the estimated double-digit growth in market value over the coming years. It is not that service providers have overlooked the importance of a robust IoT platform as the foundation of their IoT solutions, but choosing an IoT platform capable of providing the highest capabilities for deploying, maintaining, monitoring, managing and updating your IoT devices will strengthen your business and ensure its continued growth.

In the first part of this series, we reviewed the role of IoT platforms in the development and deployment of IoT solutions and the key parameters for the evaluation of IoT platform providers. The Aeris India team comprising Shweta Berry, Director Marketing, Tushir Malik, VP Sales, Parag Phakatkar, Manager Sales and Engineering and Prashant Bansal, Director Sales outlined the key features of an IoT platform which will enable success in the IoT market.

IoT platforms seek to address these challenges by offering a range of technologies that bridge the gap between the different sensors, assets, devices and software in IoT systems. Since IoT platforms are an essential part of any connected system, there is often confusion about what an IoT platform is and how to find the best solution in a crowded sea of options. Here we explain the capabilities of the IoT platform that companies should consider when evaluating providers.

An IoT platform is a kind of middleware, i.e. It is designed to act as an intermediary between the hardware and application levels. This is important because many IoT solutions are equipped with proprietary operating systems that limit interoperability.

Make sure that the platform supports the monitoring and management functions that your devices require. If the platform has robust device management, it should include features to move firmware updates to devices. An edge platform should be able to monitor devices that use operating data from streaming machines, for example, synchronize with the cloud and pass updates over the air to edge applications, the platform itself, the gateway operating system and device drivers for devices connected to the gateway.

In addition to the hardware agnostic dimension, another point that others have mentioned is the need for buyers to run their IoT platform on various IoT gateways and other devices that can be used depending on the use case of the IoT project (more about this later). However, we do not want to be too technical and too equipped with comprehensive analysis and visualization tools and capabilities, so companies should choose an IoT platform that provides out-of-the box capabilities to aggregate data, perform common statistical analyses and visualize.

It is a difficult challenge for IT managers who want to deploy IoT devices in their company, knowing that they will be held responsible if vendor’s solutions do not work as advertised or disappear altogether. And, of course, performance and actual test results influence the company and users when you choose your best IoT platform (s).

The main objective of the Lorawan Network Server is to ensure the security, scalability and reliability of the data that passes through the network. The Things-to-Industry (TTI) Lorawan network server, also known as Things stack, consists of several components that are designed to meet the needs and requirements of Lorawan deployment, maximize scalability and provide a high degree of customization. As stated today, each component has a different deployment model for the network server.

According to the LORA Alliance, Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs) will support a large part of the billions of devices predicted for the Internet of Things (IoT). Compared to other Lorawan solutions that allow high data rates and continuous transmission, such as the narrowband Internet of Things (LTE) and Cat-M1, LORAs do not have the overhead of mobile networks operated by third parties for SIM cards and recurring payments.

According to Wikipedia, Lorawan is defined as a communication protocol, system architecture and network layer (LORA) that enables remote communications. Lorawan is designed from the ground up to optimize the life, capacity, range and cost of the LPWAN battery. The LORA Alliance Lorawan enables far-reaching connectivity between Internet of Things (IoT) devices of different industries.

Lorawan is usually a cloud-dependent media obtain Command protocol that acts like a network layer protocol to manage communication between LPWAN gateways, finish nodes and devices along with a routing protocol taken care of by Lora Alliance. It’s also liable for handling the frequency, information price and overall performance from the equipment.
